DBA SIMULTANEOUS PAIRS for DEVON AIR AMBULANCE

2013-14 Season Summary

Once again this charity competition has been well supported, with a total of 29 clubs taking part this season (four more than last year and including three new non-affiliated clubs);  601 pairs played in the 37 club nights, also a new high.
Many thanks to the clubs and players who took part.

The total raised for Devon Air Ambulance in the season was  £2,490.74  – a new record by some £870 - bringing the total we have given to Devon Air Ambulance in the past five years to over  £7,500.

Particular thanks go to the clubs that added extra donations for the charity (over £1,233 in total) including:
Victoria Park, who donated £144, the Caen and Exmouth clubs, each donating over £120,  the Budleigh Salterton and West Hill clubs, over £100 each, Teignmouth and Taw Vale, each around £80, and Ottery St Mary, Honiton, Exeter Golf and Country Club, Plymouth, Tipton St John, and Okehampton who each gave around £50.

A question that is sometimes asked is "How much of the table money is actually passed to the charity after deducting costs?".
The answer for this season is that 70% of the table money plus (of course) 100% of the donations went to the charity. Operating costs are kept to an absolute minimum but at present there is little or no scope to reduce the 30% cost element; unfortunately the EBU chooses to levy a fairly high licence fee for us to run the event, despite it being for charity, and this amounted to over 13% of the table money – some £240 this season – otherwise we would have been able to pass on 83% of the table money.
